Database Trials

New trials for this week are listed below.  All public database trials are available on the library's Database Trials page.

Databases

  • You can now test out the upcoming EBSCOhost 2.0 interface.  Simply click on New Features within the existing one.
  •

  • Grove Art Online has been replaced by the new Oxford Art Online database. The appropriate changes have been made to the database list.
  •

  • Grove Music Online has been replaced by the new Oxford Music Online database. The appropriate changes have been made to the database list.
  •

  • H.W Wilson has launched a number of new enhancements.  Details are available at: http://www.hwwilson.com/Documentation/WilsonWeb/enhancements/wweb_enhancementsJune2008.htm.
  •

  • News and a review of our contract for Elsevier ScienceDirect.  For 2008, the UM System entered a contract for Elsevier ScienceDirect.  Under the contract, each campus gets online access to Elsevier ScienceDirect titles that it subscribes to.  In additions to that, all four campuses get online access to the titles in the ScienceDirect Freedom Collection.  The Freedom Collection is essentially "everything else" offered in ScienceDirect.  There are some exceptions. For example, the Freedom Collection does not include access to non-subscribed Clinics or Cell Press titles.  Title counts are listed below:
    • Subscribed ScienceDirect titles = 137 (access includes 2000-present)
    • Subscribed Clinics titles = 31 (access includes 1996-present)
    • Freedom Collection titles = 1953 (access includes 2000-present)

Electronic Journals

  • Wiley has purchased Blackwell and is migrating the Blackwell-Synergy electronic journals to the Wiley InterScience platform.  Details are listed below:

    • Blackwell-Synergy will be shut down at the end of the day on Friday, June 27th. The migration should be completed by Monday, June 30th.  During that time both Blackwell Synergy and Wiley InterScience will be unavailable at times.
    • No new electronic journal content will be published until after July 7th.
    • Blackwell-Synergy links will automatically redirect to Wiley InterScience after the migration.  There should be no changes in the titles or content that we can access.  We currently enjoy access to nearly 600 Wiley InterScience Journals and over 200 Blackwell Synergy journals.
    • I have added a note in Serials Solutions for all of the Blackwell Synergy journals indicating these changes and including the link to the E-Journal Access Problem Report form. I've also added a note to the Wiley InterScience journals indicating the downtime during the migration.
    • When I get back on July 7th, I will begin working to migrate the Blackwell Synergy titles in Serials Solutions and ironing out any access issues that may have arisen due to the migration.
